YUKETEN Shoe Care Instructions
Maintaining the natural oils and moisture within the leather fibers is crucial for preserving the quality and longevity of your shoes. Here's a detailed care routine:
Suede / Nubuck / Flesh-Out Leather:
Maintaining flesh-out leather shoes is remarkably simple, and with proper care, they can maintain their allure for decades. Follow these care instructions periodically or whenever your shoes accumulate dust or dirt.
[Step 1]: Dust and Dirt Removal
Begin by gently brushing off any dust or dirt from the shoes using a suede brush. For any dry or difficult stains, employ a suede eraser to effectively remove them.
[Step 2]: Waterproofing and Protection
Ensure the longevity of your flesh-out leather by applying a high-quality waterproofing spray. We recommend Saphir’s Super Invulner Medaille d'Or Spray (ensure to follow their instructions diligently to minimize any risk of discoloration), specifically formulated for superior suede types like our flesh-out leather. Spray the product from a distance of about 12 inches, then allow 30 to 45 minutes for drying. Applying the waterproofing spray before initial wear is advisable.
[Step 3]: Brushing for Restoration
Conclude by re-brushing the flesh-out leather with a suede brush to restore the pile on the leather. Once done, your shoes are ready.
If stubborn dirt or stains have accumulated on the leather and a deep cleaning is needed, shampooing the leather can be an effective solution. The Saphir Medaille d'Or Omni Nettoyant suede shampoo is safe for use on flesh-out leather and serves as an excellent all-purpose cleaner (ensure to follow their instructions diligently to minimize any risk of discoloration).
Chromexel / Smooth / Grained / Vegetable-Tanned Leathers:
[Step 1]: Dust and Dirt Removal
Begin by gently brushing off any dust or dirt from the shoes using a horsehair brush or wipe them with a clean, soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, consider using a high quality leather cleaner such as Saphir Reno'Mat Leather Cleaner (ensure to follow their instructions diligently to minimize any risk of discoloration).
[Step 2]: Clean and Condition
After cleaning, ensure the leather is completely dry before proceeding. Apply a quality leather conditioner or oil using your fingers or a soft cloth. Recommended products include:
Pecard Classic Leather Dressing: Ideal for conditioning and enhancing water resistance.
Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP: Effective for conditioning and improving water resistance.
Saphir Medaille d'Or Renovator: Suitable for both conditioning and cleaning leather.
Apply the conditioner evenly, allowing the leather to absorb the oil until the fibers are adequately moisturized. Repeat this process every couple of months or whenever the leather shows signs of drying out.
[Step 3]: Allow Absorption and Brush
Once the conditioner is applied, allow the shoes to sit for a few minutes to ensure proper absorption. Afterward, brush them thoroughly to evenly distribute the conditioner and restore the leather's luster.
[Additional Tips]:
Rotate Usage: Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes on consecutive days. We suggest rotating between 3 to 4 pairs to allow them ample time to rest. Aim for at least 1 to 2 days of rest between wears to maintain the leather's quality and ensure longevity.
Use Shoe Trees: When storing your shoes, utilize shoe trees to help maintain their shape over time. This practice contributes to prolonging the lifespan of your footwear.
Use Shoe Horn: Protect your shoes’ heels by always using a shoehorn when putting them on. This prevents unnecessary damage and prolongs their durability.
By following these steps and incorporating these tips into your shoe care regimen, you'll ensure your shoes remain in excellent condition for years to come.
